How Long Does Hair Have to Be to Wax?
The ¼-inch rule, why too-short hair ruins a wax, and exactly how long to wait after shaving before your appointment.
Hair needs to be about ¼ inch long — roughly the length of a grain of rice — for wax to grip it properly. That's the single most important prep rule for any waxing appointment.
Why length matters
Wax works by wrapping around the hair shaft. Too short (under ¼ inch) and the wax can't grab — you'll leave with patches and a lot of wasted discomfort. Too long (over ½ inch) and the pull is more painful and hairs are more likely to break at the surface instead of coming out from the root.
How long to wait after shaving
For most people, 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving gets you to the right length. If your hair grows slowly, give it a full 4 weeks. If it's your first wax ever, don't trim unless hair is clearly past ½ inch — your esthetician would rather trim for you than tell you to come back in two weeks.
Prep that makes the appointment easier
Gently exfoliate the day before (not the day of) with the Turmeric Honey Ginger Scrub to lift any hairs trapped under dead skin. Arrive with clean, product-free skin — no oils or lotions that morning. After your wax, wait 24 hours, then start the Ingrown Hair Serum to keep the regrowth phase bump-free.
